Skittles Came Back......

Skittles and Boomie resume their friendship instantly

Two weeks ago Skittles, my dear little foster babyfrom last fall, came back to us because of allergies. His new dad was sad to see him leave and I was sad to be the one to take him away.

Skittles left us in early December at 9 weeks old and now he's back. It was as if he never left us.  Annie, Boomer and Cinder accepted him right away, which was great.  I wasn't sure what to expect after his 3 month absence.  And of course Teika doesn't like anyone.

Now at 5-1/2 months old he is one energic and adorable young cat looking for a new forever home.

Charlie, a colony guest

About ten days ago I discovered that a raccoon was living in the sleeping shelters I made for the East Side Gang.  Prior to this I knew there was a raccoon around but didn't realize he had moved in.

Earlier this week I arrived to feed the kitties and there he was.  I saw him scamper off and into the sleeping shelter.  I also noticed that one of his back legs is injured, or maybe deformed, but he can't use this leg.  Then in dawned on me that the reason this little guy was using the cat's shelter is because he cannot climb a tree to get up to the places raccoons usually go to sleep in this area. I felt badly for the little fellow.

Yesterday I was feeding and, as I often do, I hung around while the kitties ate.  That way I can see who is eating how much as well as remove the empty bowls, or give the cats more if they are hungry. And I just like to spend a little time with them as well.
Charlie makes an appearance
I heard a noise and there was Charlie - he has to have a name if he is going to be part of the colony.  He took his time coming up from a hole at the back of the sleeping shelters.  He was very cautious and I would like him to continue to be that way.

My hope is that Charlie will eventually move on.  I am concerned that he may be causing damage to the Rubbermaid containers hidden under the straw as well as the fact I am not sure where the cats go to sleep now.

East Side Gang Enjoying Sunshine on St Patrick's Day

It was a bit chilly today but way back in the corner where the East Side Gang lives it was quite cozy with the sun beating down and the buildings blocking the wind.

Sweet Foster Family

Last week a mom kitty and two kittens arrived.  The person who had the mom was unable to provide food for her and was seeking assistance at a local food bank.  He mentioned this to the right volunteer and a few phone calls later, mom and her two little girls arrived on my doorstep.

Mom kitty - Cricket
Cricket was a little shy upon arrival but I could see she was very sweet.  And she was very small.  I'm not sure, but she can't weigh much more than 5 lbs. In our week together I think she has gained some weight but she still needs to gain more and I think she will.

Cricket's two little girls are about 8 weeks old. Lily is a gorgeous long haired tabby and her sister is a beautiful long haired black baby I named Frances Jane after my dear little feral FJ who disappeared two months ago.

The two little girls probably were not handled much by the man who had them so they are quite shy. Lily is the most outgoing but Frances Jane is starting to gain confidence.

Tomorrow morning this sweet little family is leaving my care to move on to another foster home.  I am going to miss them so much and I know the tears will flow but they will all find loving forever homes through the cat rescue group.  Hug hug hug sweet little family.
